Flying in the backcountry is an exciting and rewarding challenge with little room for error. It’s an exacting environment that demands sound decision making, stellar stick and rudder skills, a thorough understanding of the weather, and an intimate knowledge of the airplane. Whether you’re a seasoned backcountry flyer or flatlander, you’ll enjoy this new seminar, which delves into conditions, challenges, and accidents unique to backcountry flying. Together with your seminar leader you’ll examine lessons learned to fly safely in any operating environment.

John & Martha King to speak at ECOPA’s annual Spring Banquet.
Every March the ECOPA Pilots Association has an annual Spring Banquet. The next banquet will be held on Friday March 22, 2019 in Canton, Ohio at Skyland Pines C.C. They always have a key speaker as part of the program and they are pleased to announce that the speakers will be John and Martha King! Tim Hartong of ECOPA has worked very hard for about 4 years to get them to come speak, but with their very busy schedules it hadn’t worked out. He’s thrilled they have said yes and are coming to the banquet. If you have never listened to them speak then you don’t want to miss this coming years banquet, it’s going to be awesome! If you have had the pleasure, you know what Tim’s talking about and will want to hear them again. So save the date and get your reservations in.
You can learn about John and Martha at their website: KingSchools.com.
Friday, March 29th – IWASM’s Dinner with a Slice of History
Join us as we welcome Wally Funk, one of the Mercury 13, for an incredible evening of stories and inspiration. Funk, who now has over 18,000 hours of flight time, went through testing at Lovelace Clinic in the early 1960s to try to become one of the first female astronauts. Thirteen women (known as the Mercury 13) qualified for this program and passed all of the tests, only to have the program shut down by Congress. It was over 20 years later when America finally had a female astronaut. After the cancellation of the program, Funk continued to fly as a goodwill ambassador, taught over 3,000 students as a flight instructor, and was the first female to be an Air Safety Investigator for the National Transportation Safety Board. She has participated in several air races, appeared on various television and radio programs and enjoys encouraging young people to get into aviation. Funk still hopes to get into space as part of the Virgin Galactic Space program. Dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. with presentation to follow.
*Seating is limited
